Dehradun: The Tibetan Local Justice Commission of the Northern Region organised a legal awareness campaign for Tibetan settlers of the Dekyiling and Gepheling settlement on 14 April 2024 at Potala hall to inform the public about legal system of the Government of India and Central Tibetan Administration.
Indian Lawyers Varun Agarwal and Rishab Pandey, as the resource persons of the awareness campaign, illuminated the workshop participants on the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA) and the Central Government of India’s policy of providing facilities for Tibetans in Exile, respectively. Tibetan lawyer Ngawang Choedon facilitated the session by translating the guest speakers’ talks.
Likewise, Local Tibetan Justice Commissioner Choekyi apprised the gathering about the evolution of Tibetan democracy in exile, the powers and responsibilities of the three pillars of the Central Tibetan Administration, the Code of Civil Procedure’s principal law and provided a detailed guideline on the different types of evidence, admissibility of evidence, the veracity of witnesses, the examination of witnesses, and the standard of proof.
