The highlight of the visit was an extraordinary and purposeful meeting of more than two hours with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. His Holiness touched briefly on the genesis of US-Tibet relations since the time of Tolstoy’s visit and US president Roosevelt’s historic gift of watch which he showed to the 30 plus Delegation. “I have heard of this gift from His Holiness few times before, but it was the first time to have the opportunity to touch it and see it. The moment was electrifying“ says Representative Tsering.
The CODEL was warmly received by the CTA president, Sikyong Lobsang Sangay, CTA Secretaries, and the Tibetan community of Dharamsala.
The delegation assured to help with the Tibet Policy Act: a new bill the China Commission plans to introduce soon.
They visited the Tibetan Parliament House and exchanged views, ideas, and information regarding the functioning of the Tibetan Parliament
The whirlwind visit ended with a public reception followed by a cultural performance and dinner.
The chairman David Price and vice-chair Vern Buchanan of House of Democracy Partnership appreciated the hospitality exhibited during their two days stay in Dharamshala and assured to offer full support for the Tibet issue.
