Vienna: Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration arrived in Vienna on Wednesday, 29 November. During his day-long engagement in the city, Sikyong spoke to three media houses including ORF Austrian Radio/Television, International Desk And Asian Politics Of Der Standard, and reporter Saransh Sehgal.
Sikyong also met with the representatives of Tibet support groups such as the chair of Save Tibet, Madeleine Petrovic. former chair Amala Zimmermann and its member Karl Leitner. He extended his appreciation and gratitude to the long-term Tibet supporters.
In the evening, Sikyong addressed the Tibetan community in Vienna where he spoke about fulfilling the aspirations of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Kashag’s prioritisation of the same. He further spoke about the prevailing situation in Tibet and explained the historical narrative of Tibet to the youth. He advised the younger generation to acquaint themselves with Tibet’s history and forging that knowledge with members of other communities. He also emphasised strengthening efforts toward the preservation of Tibetan cultural and national identity by participating in the V-TAG programs.
The members of the Vienna V-TAG committee apprised the gathering about their ongoing and future advocacy activities, particularly their efforts to reach out to Austria’s lawmakers to support the Tibetan cause. Dolores Bakos, a member of the Ausria’s parliament had earlier criticised China’s mishandling of human rights decorum in Tibet while extending her solidarity and support for Tibet.
After concluding Vienna’s visit, Sikyong Penpa Tsering departed for France.
