Leh, Ladakh: Earlier this morning in Leh, Sikyong Penpa Tsering met with several dignitaries and officials of Ladakh Union Territory, including the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Hill Development Council, Shri Tashi Gyaltson, to seek their assistance in enhancing the welfare of the Tibetan residents.
Sikyong visited the office of the Ladakh Buddhist Association, where he was received with khatags by both the Presidents of the Ladakh Buddhist Association and Ladakh Gonpa Association. After paying obeisance inside the association’s affiliate monastery near its office, Sikyong attended a meeting with the presidents of the two religious associations to discourse on issues concerning religious matters and the Tibetan freedom struggle. Furthermore, Sikyong delivered the uplifting news of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s knee recovery after the successful treatment in the United States and also talked about the recent enactment of the Resolve Tibet Act.
Following that, Sikyong made a call on CEC Shri Tashi Gyaltson at the latter’s office to seek his administration’s assistance in enhancing the welfare of Tibetan settlers in Ladakh. A range of issues related to the well-being of Tibetans in Ladakh, including supporting Tibetan educational and monastic institutions, collaborating in the plantation of medicinal herbs, and assisting Tibetans with land and housing facilities, were addressed during the meeting. It was also attended by the Ladakh UT government’s Deputy CEC Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, Executive Councillor (Animal/Sheep); Ghulam Mehdi, Executive Councillor (Minority Affairs); Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, Executive Councillor (Rural Development); Stanzin Chosphel, Executive Councillor (Culture); Ishey Spalzang, EC Nyoma Councillor; and Sonam Nurboo, Additional District Development Commissioner(ADDC). The participating dignitaries expressed their concerns about Tibetan’s well-being as well as the Tibetan freedom struggle and assured their support that is possible within their capacity.
To express gratitude to the Ladakh UT administration and the people of Ladakh, the Chief Representative Office of Ladakh Sonamling settlement hosted a luncheon – on behalf of all Tibetan residents of Ladakh – for the above dignitaries and other prominent officials at the Sonamling community hall in the presence of Sikyong Penpa Tsering.
