Tokyo: Representative Tsewang Gyalpo Arya, the Office of Tibet – Japan and East Asia, at the invitation of Reitaku University, conducted an awareness session on Tibet for the students of the Department of International Studies of the university.
He made a PowerPoint presentation titled “Tibet: Past, Present, and Future,” where he first briefly introduced Tibetan history of myths and imperial times and how Buddhism pacified and enriched Tibetan spiritual culture.
He spoke on Tibet’s historical and religious importance in maintaining peace and harmony among the warring nations of Mongolia, China, Manchu, and Nepal. He talked about the advent and the role of the Dalai Lama in Tibet and the neighbouring countries. Additionally, he apprised the gathering about the Tibetan exile diaspora and the potential of Tibetan Buddhism to bring peace and reconciliation in this conflict-driven world while pointing out the responsibility of young students to protect global peace from the ravages of greed and dictatorial regimes.
Representative Arya briefly explained SEE learning, social, emotional, and ethical learning with an emphasis on taking care of emotional hygiene.
During the question and answer session, students asked many questions about Tibetan history, culture, and Buddhism. In addition, many appreciated the talk on Tibet-Mongol relations, Buddhist philosophy, and SEE learning.
Prof. Kazunobu Horiuchi, faculty of Global studies, coordinated the course and introduced Representative Arya to the students.
Tselha of the Office of Tibet distributed brochures on the Tibet House Japan to the students. Prof. Horiuchi and the students thanked Representative Arya for his talk on Tibetan history, religion, and politics. There were around eighty Japanese and international students.
