DHARAMSHALA: Jailed Tibetan writer Gangkye Drubpa Kyab, 36, was released from Minyak Rangakha prison, located in China’s Sichuan province on 16 September 2016.
Drubpa Kyab was first taken into custody and detained by the local police on 15 February 2012. He was later sentenced to five-year imprisonment by a court in Nyagchu in eastern Tibet’s Kardze region for “instigating campaigns for Tibet” and alleged political activities
Family members and supporters joyously welcomed him as he returned home in Serthar county, Kardze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (incorporated into China’s Sichuan Province).
He had been a teacher in the Serthar county for ten years and was teaching at a new school, built by Khenpo Tsultrim at Drago, at the time of his arrest.
Drubpa Kyab is also a renowned writer in Tibet and he wrote a book on China’s brutal crackdown on the Tibetan protests in 2008. His writings include ‘Call of Fate’, ‘Pain of This Era’ and ‘Today’s Tear of Pain’.
