The Social and Resources Development Fund, SARD under the Department of Finance, CTA has launched the second Tibetan Refugee Livelihood Support Program (TRLSP).
In addition to the existing support for Tibetan sweater sellers, three additional livelihood support programs have been included in the second TRLSP:
- Tibetans in the business of raising horses and mules for traditional caravan services (Applicable for all Tibetan settlements in India)
- Tibetans who are running taxi services (Applicable for all Tibetan settlements in India)
- Tibetans in the business of selling trinkets on pavements in tourist destination (Applicable for Tibetans in Ladakh for this year)
The pilot program of the TRLSP, launched in 2017, supported almost 900 Tibetan sweater sellers (of which 42% were women). The program was a major success with 100% repayment of the amount by February/March 2018, earning the admiration of USAID, the funding agency.
The program is funded by USAID and is implemented by SARD with cooperation from the Tibet Fund.
