DHARAMSHALA: A young Tibetan monk took to the street in protest in Ngaba in northeastern Tibet yesterday, calling for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet.
“Yesterday around 12 pm, Jamphel Gyatso, 21, was marching on Dzongkar Street in Ngaba County with a huge portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his head and calling for freedom in Tibet,” said Kanyag Tsering, a monk at Kirti Monastery in India.
The Chinese police immediately arrived at the scene and arrested him, he added.
Jamphel Gyatso is a monk from Kirti monastery. He is the son of Surya and Taray Kyi. His family lives in Meruma town in Ngaba County.
Just two days ago, on 7 September, Lobsang Kalsang, a 19-year-old Tibetan monk carried out a similar protest and arrested. Kalsang is also from Kirti monastery and a native of Meruma town.
The whereabouts and well being of both the monks remain unknown.
