Dharamshala: The two-day Tibet-Mongol Relations Conference successfully wraps up today on 2 April 2024 with a brief valedictory session attended by Sikyong Penpa Tsering.
Lauding the success of this maiden conference, Representative Telo Rinpoche underscored revival of close relation between the two communities through organisation of similar meetings in the coming years. He implored Tibet Policy Institute to form a research team to thoroughly study the relationships between Tibet and its longest “ally” Mongol.
In his concluding remarks, the Director of Tibet Policy Institute, Dawa Tsering, declared, “As this historic summit comes to an end, a new phase in the restoration of the connection between Tibet and the Mongols has started.” Following the re-establishment of the centuries-old relationships between the two communities, he stressed preserving and promoting the shared heritage of Tibetan Buddhism for the benefit of whole sentient beings. He further noted that a book containing a compilation of topics presented by the speaker during the conference would soon be published by the Tibet Policy Institute.
While extending his greetings to all the participants, Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) apprised the gathering about the 16th Kashag’s firm commitment to resolving the Tibet-China conflict through a policy of the Middle Way Approach that was conceived by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and was unanimously adopted by Tibetan Parliament in Exile. The Tibetan political leader also provided information about the CTA’s efforts to obtain official recognition of Tibet’s historical independence status through a variety of strategies, including the passing of resolutions in like-minded nations and the dissemination of accurate details covered in the publications of Dr. Michael van Walt van Praag and Professor Hon-Shiang Lau.
Before concluding, Sikyong recommended that Tibetan and Mongolian scholars form a research team to produce comprehensive histories of Tibet and Mongol relations containing the perspectives of both sides for the future references.
