Dharamshala: Tibetan Justice Commissioner Tenzin Lungtok of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission retired on 9 January 2025, as per Article 63 of the Charter, after serving a full five-year term as a Justice Commissioner. He was elected as an other Justice Commissioner during the 8th session of the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile on 23 September 2019 and took the oath of office as other Justice Commissioner on 10 January 2020.
Justice Commissioner Tenzin Lungtok was born on 1 July 1969 in the Doeguling Tibetan Settlement in Mundgod. He completed his 12th grade at the Central Tibetan School in Bylakuppe in 1990 and obtained a B.A. degree from Chandigarh College in 1993. On 18 September 1995, he was appointed as a probationary Under Secretary in the Department of Security for a period of six months. He was then appointed as a permanent civil servant on 24 April 1996, continuing in the same position. On 10 October 1996, he was transferred to the Department of Education, where he was promoted to Deputy Secretary on 9 February 1999.
On 5 August 2002, he was transferred to the Tibetan Refugee Welfare Office in Kathmandu, Nepal, and subsequently moved to the Bir Tibetan Settlement Office as its Settlement Officer on 11 March 2003.
On 4 June 2004, he was transferred back to the Department of Education, and then to the Public Service Commission on 12 July 2004. On 9 December 2004, he was transferred to the Department of Finance, where he was promoted to Joint Secretary on 20 February 2005. From 1 August 2006, he served as the Joint Secretary of the Department of Home before being transferred to the Election Commission on 15 May 2008, where he was promoted to Additional Secretary on 15 May 2012.
On 8 August 2016, he assumed the role of Acting Secretary of the Department of Religion and Culture and was subsequently appointed as its Secretary on 22 May 2017.
While serving as Secretary of the Department of Religion and Culture, he was nominated as a candidate for other Justice Commissioner of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission and was subsequently elected. From 10 January 2020 to 9 January 2025, he served as the Tibetan Justice Commissioner until his retirement.
