Guwahati: India Tibet Coordination Office held a meeting with the Tibet support Groups in Guwahati, Assam on 25 November 2023. The aim was to enhance coordination with Tibet Support Groups, bring more collective collaboration and engagement among Tibet Support Groups and follow up on the action plan of the 7th All India Tibet Support Groups Conference, the Core Group for Tibetan Cause – India (CGTC-I).

As requested, MP Khenpo Jamphal Tenzin and MP Phurpa Dorjee Gyaldhong, Tibetan Parliamentarians who were in the town for Official Visitation to North East India, graced the program; accompanied by Tenzin Samten, the Shillong Tibetan Settlement Officer. 

Honourable MPs provided a comprehensive overview of the Central Tibetan Administration and its policy, Middle Way Approach, Current Situation of Tibetan Struggle and status. They expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the Indian government and Tibet Support Groups. In addition, appealed for continued support and collaboration for the resolution of Tibet’s issue. At the end followed up by a Q&A interactive session.  

Tashi Dekyi, representing ITCO New Delhi, opened the meeting with a warm welcome and an overview of its purpose. She provided the PPT on India-Tibet relations through the ages, Facts about Independent Tibet, Tibetans in exile and Central Tibetan Administration, Current Situations in Tibet and Why Tibet matters to India.  In addition, the declaration and action plans from the 7th All India Tibet Support Groups Conference were presented and followed with engaging discussions on ways to strengthen Tibet Advocacy programs in schools, universities and round table talks with think tanks.

Discussion was held during the meeting on review of past as well as current programmes of Tibet Support Groups in Guwahati, Assam, and upcoming activities/programmes coinciding with the action plan and declaration of the 7th All India Tibet Support Groups Conference. TSG members shared feedback and suggestions in order to accelerate and safeguard the Tibetan movement in India as well as globally.  

TSGs of Guwahati, Assam, were generous and expressed appreciation for the program hosted by ITCO and raised for more insightful programs to encourage Tibet Advocacy program and mass awareness effectively. 

The meeting was attended by over 10 members of the Bharat Tibbat Sangh, Bharat Tibbat Samanvay Sangh, Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch and a few individual Tibet supporters.
