Shillong: The Honourable Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Satya Pal Malik Ji made his maiden visit to the Gaden Choeling Buddhist monastery on Monday. Tibetan Settlement Officer Pema Dhondup received the arrival of the Governor.
Along with the TSO Dhondup, parliamentarian Tsering Dolma, Ven Sonam Jinpa (The abbot of Monastery), representatives of Tibetan extended warm reception for the Governor.
On his arrival, Shri Satya Pal Malik Ji visited the Buddhist monastery and paid homage to the Buddha. As a gesture of gratitude and in honour of His Excellency, the Tibetans in Shillong felicitated him by offering mementoes. On behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and Tibetans in and outside Tibet, Tibetan Settlement Officer expressed gratitude towards the Government of India and His Honourable governor for his unparalleled support and hospitality. Furthermore, TSO briefed about the welfare activities carried out in settlement and the ongoing construction of a Cultural Learning Centre as envisioned by His Holiness the 14th Dalai during his visit in 2014.
His Excellency addressed the Tibetans and applauded the community for their efforts to sustain the unique culture and language of Tibet. Moreover, he extolled the Tibetan Settlement Office for the welfare project and dedication towards maintaining a cordial relation with locals thereby creating a peaceful society.
The Tibetan Community and the Students of Sambota Tibetan School performed a cultural show and hosted a luncheon in Honour of His Excellency. The Tibetans were honoured and humbled by His Honourable Governor’s historic visit as his presence sends a message of joy and happiness and conveys a sense of solidarity with the Tibetans.
