Kollegal: Education Kalon Dr Pema Yangchen was received at Dhondenling Tibetan settlement, Kollegal by the representatives of the community, NGOs and administrators of the monastery.
Kalon first visited the monasteries in the community and later visited the under-construction Gym centre of the settlement.
On 27th January, Kalon visited Sambhota Tibetan school where she spoke on the importance of education and health & Hygiene during the school assembly. She then inspected the classrooms and interacted with the students. The same day, she visited 3 pre-primary blocks of the settlement and interacted with the students.
In the evening, Kalon gave a talk to teaching and non-teaching staff of the school. She spoke about the importance of moral and professional qualities of a teacher and emphasised on adopting active teaching strategies. She explained the value of group work and how they can educate children about social skills through group activities. She stressed teachers to take an active role in Teacher’s Professional Development (TPD).
The next day, Kalon addressed the Tibetan residents of the settlement. She highlighted the role of the elder generation in children’s education and upbringing and informed them about educational resources and scholarship opportunities extended by the Education Department. Meanwhile, she explained to the parents on the importance of positive parenting. More than 150 people have gathered for the meeting.
After the successful completion of her visit, Dr Pema Yangchen will leave for Bangalore.
