DELHI: The Department of Education, CTA has organised an Early Grade Reading Workshop for Primary Teachers in the International Guest House, University of Delhi from 28 October to 1 November 2016. It was attended by 22 participants under different administrations: Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society and Tibetan Children’s Village.
The purpose of the workshop is to train primary teachers with the knowledge and strategies that will enable them to engage young students into the habit of reading at their early stage of learning. More than 500 teachers have been trained in Early Grade Reading workshops and the remaining 80 teachers will be trained in the coming year before 31 September 2017.
The workshop emphasised free reading and writing of Tibetan Language for the early graders. The Resource Persons taught different strategies and methods to the teachers inorder to promote reading habits in early grade students. The teachers took keen interest and studied theoretical and practical ideas throughout the workshop. In addition, the teachers shared and analyzed various stories.
During the workshop, teachers were taught about the significance of story-telling and poetry singing to encourage reading in early grades. The teachers were also taught how to select stories to engage young students.
The resource persons of the workshop were Professor Krishna Kumar and Dr Latika Gupta from Department of Education, Delhi University.
