Dharamshala: On 21 May, DOE convened an online meeting with the senior management members of Snow Lion Foundation (SLF), SLF Education Officer and school heads of the nine Tibetan schools in Nepal through Google Meet.
The meeting was presided over by Education Kalon, Dr. Pema Yangchen along with Education Secretary, Additional Secretary, three Section Heads and Project Officers.
The objective of the meeting was to understand the situation of the schools, teachers, and students during this challenging situation of school closures caused by the nationwide lockdown.
Kalon provided guidance to SLF and the other school heads on the roles and responsibilities of the school heads and teachers in continuing the education of students during this school closure period.
Emphasising on the importance of maintaining a good parent-teacher relationship, she advised them to keep in regular contact with parents and continue to guide children’s learning at home.
Kalon commended them for their leadership during these challenging times. Thanking all the teachers for their dedication and hard work, she urged them to reach, especially, those children who do not have the luxury of a smartphone to access online resources and provide tele-guidance to their parents.
Through the meeting, the heads of SLF and schools provided a brief description of the activities being carried out during the lockdown to help the students. Some of the activities include production of online classes through social media, formation of online groups, sanitization and so on. Among the major challenges they are facing right now, some are the high cost of mobile internet, lack of internet accessibility in remote areas and frequent power outages.
The DOE also plans to hold online meetings with the other school heads in India in the coming weeks.
