Dharamshala: The pro-tem Speaker of the 17th Tibetan Parliament in Exile Mr Dawa Tsering was sworn in earlier this morning at a swearing-in ceremony held at the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission here at Gangchen Kyishong.
The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Commissioner Sonam Norbu Dagpo.
In light of prevailing restrictions to curb the spread of Covid, the swearing-in ceremony was attended by only a select group of dignitaries including the Chief Justice Commissioner Sonam Norbu Dagpo, new pro-tem Speaker Dawa Tsering, Justice Commissioners Karma Dadul and Tenzin Lungtok respectively, and Secretary Tashi Gyatso Shadrong of the Supreme Justice Commission.
Brief bio:
Parliamentarian Dawa Tsering was born in 1954 in Dhingri Rachu. He came to exile in India at the age of five and studied at CST Dalhousie and CST Shimla. He is a social worker, engaging mainly with adult education, Tibetan Buddhist education for laypeople and youth empowerment. He is currently the Director of Yongling School at Mcleod Ganj, Dharamshala.
MP Dawa Tsering was previously a member of the 12th (resigned in favour of serving as Welfare Officer), 13th (directly nominated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama), 14th, 15th and 16th TPiE. He was re-elected as a member of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile.
