Guwahati, Assam: The 33rd Book Fair of Guwahati, Assam is garnering huge support for the Tibet movement and creating awareness among the youths, intellectuals and the general public. Massive bookstall installed at Guwahati Book Fair, showcasing the importance of Tibet Freedom Movement and its significance to Assam is eye-opening. It’s well known that the livelihood of Assamese people depends on Brahmaputra River which originates from Tibet and plays a vital role in its survival. The dam project by Communist China raises huge concern for the Assamese people as it is its lifeline. Under the guidance of National Convener Shri. R. K. Khrimey, the Regional Convener of Assam and Meghalaya, Core Group for Tibetan Cause – India Shri. Soumyadeep Datta and his team have worked tirelessly for so many days to make this day possible. With overwhelming support from the people of Assam, it boosts their enthusiasm to work for the Tibetan Cause.
On 5 Jan 2021, a cultural performance showcasing the essence of Tibetan culture was performed by Gangjong Doegar, an independent local organization comprising of Tibetans, Sherpas and Bhutias from Kalimpong, who enrolled themselves voluntarily to learn the art of Tibet’s Culture. The members consist of college students and employed people of that region who learn the art on the weekend and every other occasion. Distinguished guests during the evening cultural performance include National Convener, Core Group for Tibetan Cause – India Sh. R. K. Khrimey, Sh. Pramod Kalita, Secretary Assam Prakashan Parishad. Gangjong Doegar Art organization will be performing at Kalakshetra the next day and will be performing their final event at 33rd Guwahati Book Fair on 7 January.
The Tibetan culture performance was covered live by local media including both print and electronic media (Pratidin Newspaper, Pratidin Times, News ASN, Janani Live, Newznow, Sky News) and the event was crammed with viewers. Shri Soumyadeep Datta enlightened the masses on the importance of Tibetan Movement in Assamese dialect and Mr Jigmey Tsultrim, Coordinator of India-Tibet Coordination Office spoke on the importance of initiating such program. Chief Guest Sh. R. K. Khrimey told the masses how the Chinese have exploited this Great Nation and betrayed their trust for many decades. He pointed out the boycott of Chinese products and supported the stand taken by the present government for countering Communist China in this critical time.
