Dharamshala: In honour of the gratitude year to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, The Department of Religion and Culture, CTA launched its 2nd publication of the 69th volume of a textbook – The necklace for intelligent students composed by Kasur Kirti Rinpoche.
Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay unveiled the textbook in the presence of Chorig Kalon, Ven. Redo Sangay (teacher of literature and art, Kirti monastery), and the Kalons of CTA.
In his keynote address, Sikyong lauded the initiative taken by Kirti Rinpoche and his institution for coming out with textbooks that teaches human ethics and value education to the students.
Sikyong added that there is an imperative need for such books as an academic subject given the increasing epidemic of depression and anxiety amongst young adults.
“Because the youth culture is so incredibly influenced by mottos, such as Yolo, that encourages them to live the life to the fullest, they are often pushed into embracing bad choices that are detrimental to them”, said Sikyong and further added that the present generation and the next generation will benefit significantly from Kirti Rinpoche’s textbooks.
Speaking on the objectives of the textbook, Chorig Kalon said the Tibetan education system should not focus only on achieving modern education but to strengthen the traditional education that has been deeply rooted in the Tibetan culture for ages.
Kalon emphasised His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s advice that the Tibetan students must in addition to the development of mental faculty learn the essentiality of the wisdom of morality.
This first publication of the textbook was unveiled by His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the 25th founding anniversary of Kirti monastery in Dharamshala.
