Dharamshala: This morning, the leadership and senior staff of the Central Tibetan Administration convened at Gangchen Kyishong to commemorate the 155th Gandhi Jayanti, paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the iconic champion of non-violence.
The event was graced by officiating Sikyong Kalon Tharlam Dolma Changra of the Department of Education, along with Kalon Norzin Dolma from the Department of Information and International Relations, Auditor General Lhakpa Gyaltsen, and various Secretaries and senior officials of the Central Tibetan Administration.
In her address to the media, officiating Sikyong Tharlam Dolma Changra underscored the universal importance of Gandhi’s teachings and the principle of non-violence, stating, “For us Tibetans, these principles hold particular significance as His Holiness has time and again stressed to follow the footpaths of Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violence.”
Underlining the global relevance of non-violence, Kalon Tharlam Dolma Changra remarked that, in the face of current rising global turmoil, the principle of non-violence is more pertinent than ever in bringing about global peace and harmony. The Education Kalon further shared her thoughts on the significance of the day before lighting a ceremonial butter lamp to formally commence the observance.
Following this, Kalon Norzin Dolma and the Secretaries honoured the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi by paying their respects to his portrait.
