Dharamshala: On 1 July 2022, the inaugural ceremony of the 9th Six Months Intensive Course on Tibetan Language and Buddhist Studies was observed at the School of Snow land Tibetan Studies, Gyudmed Monastery based in Hunsur.
Secretary Chime Tseyang of the Department of Religion and Culture (DRC) attended the inaugural as chief guest along with the special guest Abbot Jetsun Tenzing Sangpo of the Gyudmed Monastery. The event was also attended by Associate Abbot Geshe Nawang Sangay, Office Secretary of Tibetan Settlement Office – Hunsur, Director and facilitators of Snow land Tibetan Studies School, and the participants.
Following the introduction of the school by Geshe Younten and of individual participants, the gathering was addressed by Abbot, Associate Abbot and Secretary of DRC, respectively.
Successive Six Months Intensive Course on Tibetan Language and Buddhist Studies was jointly organised by DRC and Gyudmed Monastery since 2014 in the aftermath of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to the monastery in 2007, during which, His Holiness recommended the establishment of a school affiliated with Gyudmed in order to provide Tibetan language and Buddhist studies to the inquisitive from all walks of life. Additionally, the school’s name, Gangchen Rigney Lobdra (Snow land Tibetan Studies School), was bestowed by His Holiness.
The 9th six-month intensive course on Tibetan language and Buddhist studies was funded by USAID and was partaken by 25 Tibetan students.
