Dharamshala: Hundreds of Tibetans from all over settlements in exile throng Dharmshala-based TCV Upper School here on Thursday to watch the highly anticipated opening ceremony of the 28th Gyalum Chenmo Memorial Gold- Cup.
The leadership of CTA comprising Acting Chief Justice Commissioner Karma Dadul, Parliament Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Sikyong Penpa Tsering, Kalon Tharlam Dolma Changra, Kalon Norzin Dolma, Members of the Parliament Standing Committee and Representatives of Local Tibetan civil society groups attended the inaugural ceremony to show their support of the most anticipated sports event in exile.
The 2023 session of GCM is being participated by 16 teams from Tibetan settlements and communities across the world.
While addressing the event, Sikyong Penpa Tsering commended the Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA) for spearheading such a big event with limited resources and especially without much reliance on the administration. He thanked the donors and sponsors for supporting the effort of TNSA and empowering the aspirations of the Tibetan athletes.
“The administration acknowledges in high regard the big and small contributions of all those involved in nurturing and empowering the talents of youths”, said Sikyong and felicitated the contributors.
Sikyong also unveiled the new jersey of the TNSA before the commencement of the first tournament played between TCV and Varna teams in which the Varna team scored a winning goal. For the next 11 days, the teams will compete against each other to claim the golden trophy. In addition to that, the TNSA has announced the selection of top players of all teams to play for the 2024 CONIFA World Cup.
