Dharamshala: CTA President Dr. Lobsang Sangay today addressed Tibetan settlement officers from across India, Bhutan, and Nepal at Gangchen Kyishong. There were 41 Tibetan settlement officers present at the meeting.

Kalon of Department of Home, Sonam Topgyal Khorlatsang and Secretary of the department, Wangdu Tsering Pesur also presided over the meeting.

Secretary of the Department of Home, Wangdu Tsering Pesur delivered the introduction note.

President Dr. Lobsang Sangay in his keynote address talked about the significant roles of the settlement officers and lauded their commitment and hardwork. Since the settlement officers play a major role in the administration and welfare of Tibetans in exile, President said that the settlement officers were invited to participate in the long life prayer for His Holiness the Dalai Lama especially as the prayers were being organised by the Central Tibetan Administration in representation of the aspirations of all six million Tibetans.

In his address, the President also alerted the officers to be wary of the negative influences lurking in the community and encouraged them to continue their excellent service in keeping the teachings and advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

“It is the utmost responsibility of each and every Tibetan especially the community leaders to act towards fulfilling all the noble wishes of our spiritual leader,” he said, adding that the settlement officers must guide the people in the same spirit.

President Sangay threw light on the Five-Fifty forum and how the Five Fifty Vision was premised upon advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The Five Fifty Forum is the most important initiative led by the Central Tibetan Administration that is dedicated towards the fulfilling aspirations and vision of His Holiness.

President shared how working under the guidance and blessing of His Holiness the Dalai Lama inspired him to act upon the political responsibilities and to continue his work in strengthening the Tibetan resilience through various economic, social and educational innovations with the support of various organisations across the world.

President acknowledged the support of Tibetan civil servants including the settlement officers who ensured the success of the development projects.

Speaking hopefully on the Tibetan struggle, he said victory is guaranteed either in five or fifty years. “Five-Fifty is about what CTA and Tibetans in exile can to do to retain the cause of Tibet for fifty years, as the Five Fifty vision will be passed down from this generation to next.” He assured the vision will become more and more relevant in time.

He briefly discussed the Tibetan rehabilitation Policy Act 2014, the Gangjong Finance initiative of Department of Finance, Basic Education Policy and the developmental initiations undertaken by CTA.

President Dr Lobsang Sangay graciously greeted each of the settlement officers after his address.
