On Monday Morning, a group of 45 Americans led by Deepak Chopra, an acclaimed Indian-American author, public speaker, and celebrity doctor met His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at his official residence in Mcleod Ganj nestled in the pine trees hilly station in Dev Bhoomi (Himachal Pradesh).
Prior to this meeting, Deepak Chopra a motivational speaker with 1.3 M followers on Facebook, released a video message via his official Facebook page @DeepakChopra: “So here we are at Chopra House with very special guests. We are visiting His Holiness the Dalai Lama in a few minutes. We will keep you updated. We are going to have a wonderful time in conversation with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and it is being live streamed.”
The octogenarian Tibetan spiritual leader greeted Deepak Chopra in the Māori tradition of rubbing noses at the beginning of their meeting. He took immense joy in explaining the customary greeting to his special guests. With his infectious laugh, he cautioned guests that they could end up being surprised if they are not careful how they perform the hongi (a traditional Māori greeting in which people press their noses together).
Speaking about the relevance of ancient Indian tradition in today’s world, His Holiness said, “India is the one country that has the potential to combine its ancient knowledge with modern education for the wider benefit of the world at large.”
Furthermore, he said we all belong to 7 billion human beings. The 20th century was a century of violence and war. We should make the 21st century a century of dialogue. And we should acknowledge our different ideologies and interests as brothers and sisters to make this a century of dialogue and peace.
