Odisha: Kalon Dr Pema Yangchen, Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration visited Sambhota Tibetan School in Odisha from 1 to 3 November to inspect the school infrastructure and interact with students. Kalon was accompanied by Secretary Karma Singey.
Kalon and Secretary were received by Settlement Officer, Secretary, Tibetan sweater sellers committee, local Tibetan assembly, Tibetan freedom movement committee, Principal and members of Sambhota School and representatives of local youth congress, Tibetan Women’s Association and local Tibetans.
On 2 November, Kalon visited Sambhota school where she addressed the students on qualities of a good student, on acquiring constructive habits such as reading books, expressing one’s doubts and questions during classes.
Kalon also encouraged the students to form reading buddies in order to facilitate reading environments in school and at home.
Likewise, she also recommended the students to form study groups of two or more students. “Studying together in groups helps one cope with the stress to study and it becomes mutually enriching experience where all the members can share knowledge.”
She also advised them to ask questions and interact with teachers as much as possible. “Resolving any doubts by asking about them on the spot is always a good thing.”
Secretary Karma Singey spoke about the objectives of the ongoing transition of Tibetan schools under Central School for Tibetans Administration to Sambhota Administration and the current status.
Kalon and Secretary then led an inspection of the school infrastructure and learning facilities. The duo also visited local Tibetan day school and discussed with the teachers on conducting engaging classes and facilitating effective learning for students. They also visited Kailash hostel.
Kalon also addressed a local Tibetan gathering organised by the Tibetan settlement office. Settlement officer presented the community’s annual report.
Kalon informed the public on the important undertakings of the Department including the launch of a series of Tibetan Children’s storybooks, website for learning Tibetan language, website for Tibetan terminology and launch of Tibetan animated films.
Following the talk, Kalon visited the Old Age Home, Tibetan hospitial, Men Tsee Khang and local offices.
