Dehradun: As per invitation received from Tibetan Homes Foundation, Mussoorie, Dr Pema Yangchen, Kalon for Education, CTA left Dharamsala on 9 October to be the Chief Guest at the 28th Annual Inter-House Athletic Meet of Tibetan Homes School, Mussoorie on 11 October. Kalon was accompanied by Mr Tenzin Dorjee, Head of Modern and Traditional Academic Section of DoE, CTA

On the eve of 10th October, Kalon was cordially received by General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Principal and staff of THF Mussoorie. On the next day, Kalon hoisted the meet flag and declared the much awaited 28th Annual Inter-house athletics meet open. Unfortunately, the meet got cancelled due to untimely rainfall on the day. Kalon then visited CST Mussoorie and addressed the boarding children and teachers.

Later in the afternoon, Kalon addressed the students and staff on three key points in the Tsering Dolma Auditorium. Citing examples from her own experiences in life, Kalon spoke about the importance of having a sense of gratitude in one’s life. She told the students to pursue their career and educate themselves with a sense of gratitude in life. She shared the lessons, challenges and opportunities that she was able to identify in her school years. Secondly, Kalon emphasised on the preservation and promotion of Tibetan language in exile. Finally, Kalon encouraged the students to read a variety of books and on the need for inculcating reading habits in school. She also gave a few examples of benefits of reading books.

On 12th October, Kalon visited TCV Selakui and interacted with students and teachers at the school’s 15th inter-house annual sports meet. Later, in the afternoon, Kalon visited Dickyiling Tibetan settlement and was accorded a warm reception by the Settlement Officer, Headmaster, staff and students at the Sambhota Tibetan School. She conducted few language activities with the students and spoke to the students. She also visited Ngoenga School for Tibetan Children with Special Needs and met with the staff and children at the school.

Earlier on her way to Mussoorie on 10th October, Kalon visited Sambhota Tibetan School, Paonta and Central School for Tibetans, Herbertpur. On reaching STS Paonta, she was cordially received by the Principal, staff and students of the school at the gate along with settlement staff. At the school, Kalon observed students’ presentation on book reading and dialectic debates followed by a talk to the students, staff and parents. Kalon, then visited different classroom sections and departments. Later in the afternoon, Kalon visited CST Herbertpur and spoke to the students of Class XI and XII along with Tibetan children.

Kalon returned back to Dharamsala on 13th October.
