Rotterdam, Netherlands: His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Rotterdam, Netherlands ahead of his two-day speaking engagements in the city.
His Holiness was received at the Rotterdam airport by Representative Tashi Phuntsok, Office of Tibet, Brussels, John Mai, First Secretary, Indian Embassy at the Hague, Paula de Wys and other organising committee members of the visit.
This is His Holiness’ 8th visit to the country. He is being hosted by De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam and the Foundation for the Visit of the Dalai Lama (Stichting Bezoek Dalai Lama) and International Campaign for Tibet Europe.
On arrival at the hotel, Indian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mr Venu Rajamony and his wife had a courtesy meeting with His Holiness. It was followed up by a call by staff of the Mongolian embassy.
Tomorrow His Holiness will inaugurate an exhibition on The Life of the Buddha at De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam. This includes a special dialogue during which His Holiness will speak with, amongst others, scientists and youth about compassion and technology.
His Holiness’ programme on Sunday in the Rotterdam Ahoy has three parts. The first part is an audience for the Tibetan community, followed by a conversation between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Richard Gere in honour of the 30th anniversary of International Campaign for Tibet (ICT).
The final part will be the public talk on “Why Compassion is Essential in Our Troubled World”.
On 17 September, His Holiness will give a teaching on Geshe Langri Thangpa’s Eight Verses of Mind Training (lojong tsik gyema).
His Holiness will be in the Netherlands until Tuesday, after which he will depart for Frankfurt, Germany.
