NEW DELHI: Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, New Delhi hosted a Dinner Reception at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi in honour of the 83rd Birthday of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet.
The Reception was also to mark ‘Thank you India’, to express gratitude to people and the government of India for sixty years of generous support towards the Tibetan people.
Padmashree Har Mander Singh, former Political Officer of the Govt. of India who received His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Indo-Tibet border on 31 March 1959 was the Chief Guest. Mr Har Mander Singh is 92 years old, who shared his experience with the esteemed audience of Indian politicians, intellectuals, businessmen, media people and diplomats (former and current), GoI officials as well as foreign diplomats.
The Reception saw a gathering of over 200 guests, excluding Tibetans. There were around 30 diplomats from at least 14 different countries
A representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Kasur Ngodup Dongchung welcomed the eminent guests and spoke briefly about the significance of the day and expressed Tibetan people’s profound gratitude to the people and Govt. of India.
As a token of appreciation and gratitude, Kasur Tempa Tsering, Director of Gaden Phodrang Trust for South Asia and South East Asia, on behalf of the Tibetan people offered a memento in the form of ‘ Dharmachakra’ to Padmashri Har Mander Singh, the Chief Guest for the evening.
Earlier in the day, the staff of the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, New Delhi along with Kasur Tempa Tsering attended the official public function in celebration of the day in Tibetan Colony, New Aruna Nagar.
