Representative Ngodup Tsering being welcomed to Burlington by members of the Tibetan community.

VERMONT: Representative Ngodup Tsering of OOT Washington DC, attended the silver jubilee celebration of Tibetan resettlement project in Vermont on 2 June 2018 as the chief guest. This is the first celebration of its kind regarding the Tibetan resettlement project in 1993.

The celebration, organised by Vermont Tibetan Association, was held at Burlington, Vermont. Other guests at the celebration include US Senator Patrick Joseph Leahy, Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger, and Mr Gerard G. Haase and James D. Kelley, who were part of the committee overseeing the Tibetan Resettlement Project, Burlington, in 1993. Forty other sponsors and employers of the first group of Tibetans resettling in Vermont were also invited to the celebration.

Representative Ngodup Tsering spoke about the assistance provided by people and government of the United States towards the Tibetan people and the Central Tibetan Administration. He also thanked the Vermont state for giving excellent education and livelihood to the Tibetan people residing in the state.

As part of the Tibetan Resettlement project in 1993, 1000 Tibetans were resettled in the United States. In Burlingotn, Vermont, a total of 26 Tibetans were resettled in three batches. At present, there are at least 37 Tibetan families totaling about 147 individuals residing in Burlington, Vermont.
