Frankfurt: The President of the CTA Dr Lobsang Sangay, who is on a five-day visit to Germany, attended the 30th Annual Members Assembly of the Tibet Initiative Deutschland in Frankfurt on 12 May.

Based in Germany, Tibet Initiative Deutschland (TID) is a politically independent non-profit organisation which has been advocating for Human Rights in Tibet and the Tibetan people’s right to self-determination since 1989.

Thanking the TID for their sustained voluntary initiatives and support, Dr Sangay congratulated the organisation for successfully hosting Tibetan Flag in 361 cities across Germany this year. Dr Sangay applauded their continued effort and commitment towards the Tibet cause for 30 years.

“I came here in person on behalf of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, on behalf of the Tibetan people to say thank you to Tibet Initiative Deutschland,” he said.

In his address Dr Sangay expressed that the present situation inside Tibet resembles that of the Cultural revolution. Highlighting the 152 Tibetans who have self-immolated calling for freedom in Tibet and the case of Tashi Wangchuk, imprisoned for advocating for a right provisioned in the Chinese constitution, Dr Sangay added that the world no longer can remain indifferent to Tibet, “it started with Tibet, but it ends with you,” he said. As China rises and with its influence, the liberal democracies has a choice to make, he added.

Speaking of the Chinese influence, Dr Sangay spoke of the resilience of the Tibetan people and added that irrespective of Chinese government’s influence and pressure, he will show up and “speak for Tibet, for truth, for democracy, for justice and for human rights.”
