Geneva: Mr. Ngodup Dorjee, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration to eastern and central Europe met Hungarian Member of Parliament and co-President of Politics Can Be Different (Lehet Más a Politika; LMP) and Green Party Dr. Szél Bernadett on 26 January at Budapest, Hungary.

Videos could be seen on social media showing MP Dr Szél Bernadett raising strong voice of support in the Hungarian National Parliament on Tibet. Subsequently, the Tibet Bureau communicated through Tibet Support group’s President Mr. Tibor Handrey and Mr. Karma Dorjee of Tibetan Community in Hungary to fix an appointment with MP Dr. Bernadett. Despite her busy schedule of campaign work, Dr. Szél Bernadett has graciously accepted the request saying that 26 Jan 2018 would be most suitable date for the meeting.

Thus, Representative Ngodup Dorjee visited Budapest and extended heartfelt gratitude for her support and also apprised her of the current human rights situation in Tibet under Chinese rule, ranging from destruction of Buddhist academic institutes in Serthar county, arbitrary detention and torture of peaceful protesters and the 151 cases of self-immolation since 2009.

Representative Ngodup Dorjee also presented a letter of gratitude from the Speaker of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and urged Dr. Szél Bernadett for the creation of a Hungarian Parliamentary Support group for Tibet in the years to come.

Dr. Szél Bernadett was elected Member of Parliament from the party’s national list in the 2014 parliamentary election. She became a member of the Committee on National Security 6 May 2014. After the resignation of Erzsébet Schmuck, Szél was elected leader of the LMP parliamentary group on 16 February 2017. In September 2017, Bernadett Szél was nominated the party’s candidate to the position of Prime Minister for the upcoming parliamentary election.

Finally, Representative Ngodup Dorjee has presented a canvas painting of Lord Buddha (Thangka) to Dr. Szél Bernadett as token of gratitude and urged for consistent support in the years to come. She assured her full support and expressed her solidarity with the Tibetan cause.
