London, 29 November 2016: The Representative of the Office of Tibet in London, Chonpel Tsering, visited Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, from 19 to 22 November.
Representative Chonpel Tsering met jointly with board members of the Tibetan Community in Sweden and the Swedish Tibet Committee on Saturday 19 November. The meeting was held to discuss Tibet-related activities that the two organisations were planning in Sweden for 2017. The Representative thanked the Swedish Tibet Committee board members present for their continued support for the Tibetan cause and requested them to strengthen their support in 2017, the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Swedish Tibet Committee.
The following day, Representative Chonpel Tsering met with the members of the Tibetan Community in Stockholm. The discussions at the meeting focused on the preservation of Tibetan culture and particularly on the Tibetan language class for Tibetan children in Stockholm, and on how the Tibetans living in Sweden can continue to play an active role on campaigning on the Tibetan issue.
On Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 November, Representative Chonpel Tsering met with Swedish Parliamentarian supporters. The Representative also met with an official from the Asia and Pacific Department of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs during his visit. During the meetings with the Parliamentarians, the Representative thanked them for their interest and support for the Tibetan cause, and requested them to consider ways of raising the Tibet issue in the Swedish Parliament. All the Parliaments that the Representative met expressed their strong support for the Tibetan cause and undertook to look at various measures in the coming months to show their support.
