Brussels, 22 October 2016: Sherab Nangjhe School, the weekend Tibetan language school run by the Tibetan Community in Belgium celebrated its third Founding Anniversary on Saturday, 22 October 2016 in Antwerpen, Belgium.
Over 150 Tibetans attended the celebration. Participants included Ven Metok Rinpoche, the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Mr Tashi Phuntsok and the staff of Bureau du Tibet, Executive members of the Tibetan Community, administrators of the school, parents and students.
The celebration started with the offering of traditional Tibetan scarf to the portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, singing of the Tibetan National anthem, observing a minute’s silence in memory of all the Tibetans who have died under Chinese occupation followed by speeches and cultural performances.
In his speech, Chief Guest Representative Tashi Phuntsok commended the joint efforts of the executive members of the Tibetan Community and administrators of the school for constantly striving to improve the quality of education provided to the Tibetan children. He also commended the support of the parents towards the school management and underscored the importance and urgency of preserving the Tibetan language and culture amongst the growing number of Tibetan Children in Belgium.
The Sherab Nangjhe School was founded by the Tibetan Community on 1 June 2013. Currently, over 120 students attend these weekend classes in two different locations namely Antwerpen and Machelen.
