Home Kalon with with the Chief Administrator Smt Rinchen Ongmu.

SIKKIM: Home Kalon Mr Sonam Topgyal Khorlatsang met with the Chief Administrator Smt Rinchen Ongmu Rtd. IAS officer (former Chief Secretary to the Government of Sikkim) on 6 September, 2016.

Since taking charge as the Home Kalon, one of the most important task and focus was on the implementation of the Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy 2014 formulated by the Government of India. So, in this regard today’s courtesy call was to follow up on the implementation of the same policy in Sikkim state.

Also, another important issue discussed was the  proposed highway road construction project which leads through Ravangla Tibetan settlement initiated by the Central Govt. Home Kalon requested that the extension of the road which passes through the Ravangla Kunphenling Tibetan settlement should not disrupt the settlement in any way hence, this be diverted through some other means.

Smt Rinchen Ongmu assured that the state government is very positive and it is in the process of implementing the policy. The policy document formulated by the Central Govt. is very clear, highlighting the benefits that needs to be provided to the Tibetan refugees. Under the dynamic leadership of Shri Pawan Kumar Chamling, the state Govt. is very forthcoming, looking after the welfare of Tibetan refugees in the state.

Home Kalon thanked the state Government for the unwavering support and looks forward to the implementation of the policy.

Home Kalon was accompanied by the settlement officer of Gangtok Mr Tenzin Tsepak, the newly appointed settlement officer of Ravangla Mr Tenzin Nordhen, Gangtok local Tibetan assembly Chairman Mr Acharaya Rinchen, Mr Nyima Dhondup, Sponsorship coordinator and Mr Tenzin Losel, PA.

Earlier at Gangtok, a dinner reception was hosted on the 5th evening by the six local Tibetan association groups at Hotel Tibet, followed by working meeting with the community heads, also present was Gangtok Muncipal Councillor Mr Pema Wangdak, (a reserve seat for Tibetans in Gangtok which was provided last year by the state Government).

Addressing the gathering, Kalon highlighted the 5-50 strategy outlining the policies and plans of the 15th Kashag. He stressed on the importance to maintain unity and provide better education to sustain our movement and fulfill the wishes of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

He thanked the Tibetans in Gangtok for showing great participation and cooperation to the Central Tibetan Administration.

Kalon is scheduled to visit Ravangla on the 7th September as per request to be Chief Guest for inaugural function of 16th Annual Conference of 15 cooperative societies from FTCI.
