OBITUARY: Mr Lobsang WangchukMonday, 19 October 2009, 3:56 p.m.


Dharamshala: The
Central Tibetan Administration mourns the demise of Mr. Lobsang
Wangchuk, a retired civil servant whose service in the administration
spanned nearly twenty-five years. He was cremated this morning in
Dharamsala.After battling prolonged illness, Mr Lobsang
Wangchuk breathed his last at the Tibetan Delek hospital on Sunday, 18
October. He was 64.He was born in 1945 in Lhoka, Tibet. He
was inducted into the Tibetan civil service in 1971, when he was
deputed at the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala.From
1 December 1972 to 25 April 1994, he served in various capacities as
deputy secretary in the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama; Bureau
of His Holiness in New Delhi; deputy head of the Tibetan Self-help
Handicraft Center in Darjeeling; health department and department of
religion and culture. He went for one-year further studies to the
United States under the Fulbright scholarship in 1992.He was
promoted to joint secretary on 3 October 1994, following which he
worked in the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Delhi and as
secretary at the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Nepal till
his premature retirement on 1 May 1997.
