Tibetan Parliament felicitates George Fernandes on joining Rajya Sabha[Wednesday, 12 August 2009, 11:17 a.m.]

The members of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile congratulated the
long-time friend of Tibet, Mr George Fernandes, on joining the August
session of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Indian Parliament.Mr
Fernandes, leader of Janata Dal (United), owing to poor health had to
be assisted by party colleagues and marshals in taking oath as a Member
of the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Several members gathered around
the socialist leader and congratulated him when he entered the House to
take oath as member for the first time after nine stints in the Lok
Sabha.“The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile wish to express our
heartfelt best wishes and congratulate you on joining the August house
of the Rajya Sabha,” Deputy Speaker Dolma Gyari said in a letter to
George Fernandes.“Your presence in the Indian Parliament
continues to encourage and raise the expectation of people’s world wide
who believes in freedom, democracy and human rights. Our prayers and
best wishes are always with you,” the letter noted.
Mr Fernandes visited Dharamsala in June this year to seek medication from the Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute. During
his brief stay in Dharamsala, Mr Fernandes and his colleague Jaya
Jaitley, met with the members of Tibetan community and paid visits to
educational and religious institutions.
He also met with members of the Tibetan Parliament and Kalon Tripa Prof Samdhong Rinpoche.
