Central Tibetan Administration Congratulates George Fernandes on Election to Rajya Sabha[Friday, 14 August 2009, 10:48 a.m.]

Tripa Prof Samdhong Rinpoche on Friday (14 August) sent a
congratulatory letter to Mr George Fernandes, the former defence
minister of India and a steadfast supporter of the Tibetan cause, on
his election to the Upper House of the Indian parliament.Seventy-nine
years old Fernandes took oath as member of the Rajya Sabha on 4 August.
He was elected unopposed from the Indian state of Bihar in a
bye-election necessitated after Janta Dal(U) leader Sharad Yadav
resigned the seat on getting elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house.“We
are delighted to learn that you have elected unopposedly to the upper
house of the Indian parliament. On behalf of the Kashag, please allow
me to express our heartfelt congratulations to you,” Kalon Tripa Prof
Samdhong Rinpoche said.“It is a sincere hope that you will
continue to render the same selfless public service in the Rajya Sabha
as you have done in the Lok Sabha and within the government of India.
We feel that the Rajya Sabha has gained an enormous asset by your
presence,” Kalon Tripa added.The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile also greeted Mr Fernandes on his election victory.
