Tibetans in Japan celebrate US Gold Medal to His Holiness

Tokyo: Like all the Tibetan community abroad, the small Tibetan community in Japan celebrated the award of US Congressional Gold Medal to His Holiness the Dalai Lama at Tibet House in Tokyo on 26 October with great festivity.
Some forty odd Tibetans drove in with intense fervor for the event, braving inclement weather and the distance. The celebration started at 6:30 p.m.with an opening address by community leader, Mr Khedup. He spoke on the need to rejoice together for this historic event.
While speaking as the chief guest of the occasion, Representative, Mr Tsoko Lhakpa spoke on the significance of this award and the recognition awarded by the highest body of US Government to His Holiness.
He also called upon the Tibetans to take this event as new inspiration to further our effort in pursuing the goal of Middle-Way Approach in realizing our dream of prosperous Tibet.
He expressed gratitude to the US government for its continued support for peaceful resolution of the issue of Tibet.
The live telecast of the award function was shown to the gathering. They lauded the proclamations made by the leaders of US Government honoring efforts of His Holiness.
The liaison office of His Holiness also received good number of congratulatory messages from supporters and friends of Tibet.
The gathering also provided a good platform for all to discuss the forthcoming visit of His Holiness in November, and to celebrate the day of the conferment of Nobel Peace Prize to His Holiness.
The Japanese press made a wide coverage of the events leading up to the conferment of US highest civilian award to His Holiness.
