Special Envoy Reiterates His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Wish to Visit Kyegudo
[Wednesday, 13 May 2010, 3:21 p.m.] Dharamshala:
His Holiness the Dalai Lama's special envoy has called on the PRC
leadership to respond positively to His Holiness' wish to visit the
quake-affected Kyegudo region of Tibet to fulfill the aspirations of
Tibetans affected by the tragedy and who yearn to receive his blessings.

"If
the Chinese leaders are able to make the far-sighted decision to allow
His Holiness the Dalai Lama to visit Kyegudo, then it will create
unprecedented good will among Tibetans everywhere, especially Tibetans
most affected by the earthquake," Special Envoy Kasur Lodi Gyari said
on Wednesday to Voice of America (VOA) during an interview.
Three
days after the earthquake struck the region on 14 May, His Holiness the
Dalai Lama had expressed deep sadness over the tragic loss of many
lives and conveyed his eagerness to visit the affected areas to comfort
the victims. In the statement His Holiness applauded the Chinese
authorities for visiting the affected areas, especially Prime Minister
Wen Jiabao, who had personally offered comfort to the affected
communities and oversaw the relief works.
The special envoy said that he was in touch with the concerned officials in the People's Republic of China about the request.
"It
is the moral responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan
leadership and Tibetans around the world to do whatever we can to help
the injured and traumatised in a time of great need. Yet anticipating
that Chinese authorities would resist such an effort, the Tibetan
leadership did not make any public appeal for donations until after
Chairman Jia Qinglin's 19 April statement welcoming donations from all
overseas Tibetans. Only then did the Kashag urged the exile Tibetans to
contribute to the relief of Tibetans in Kyegudo through a volunteer
group of Kyegudo people residing in Dharamsala who came together solely
for this purpose," said Kasur Lodi Gyari.
Kasur Lodi Gyari
strongly emphasised that the Tibetan people living in exile led by the
Central Tibetan Administration do not have an iota of desire to
politicise His Holiness' visit and gain any profit out of the issue.
Referring particularly to remarks alleging that the Tibetan exile
leadership was exploiting the situation by conducting fund raising in
the name of a worldwide relief effort, he added it is regrettable that
some people in China are deliberately creating dissension and
obstructing progress towards a harmonious society.
