DoE to select Tibetan students for Study in UK

Tuesday, 8 July 2008, 3:52 p.m.
Dharamshala: The Department of Education (DoE) of the Central Tibetan Administration in collaboration with Pestalozzi International Village Trust, will select four aspirants among Tibetan students to study a two-year International Baccalaureate diploma course at Hastings College for Arts and Technology in UK.

Thirty students from various Tibetan schools across India are competing in the tests, including interview, listening skills, science, mathematics, English.

The exam, which began 7 July, is being conducted here at the Lhakpa Tsering Memorial Hall of the Department of Information and International Relations.

Derek Marshall, chief executive officer of Pestalozzi International Village Trust, is presiding over the selection process.

Marshall said Pestalozzi is delighted to be able to play a part in the development of talented young Tibetans, and is grateful for the support and encouragement received from the Department of Education to encourage this long lasting relationship.

Pestalozzi has been offering scholarships for Tibetan refugee students since 1963, when the first batch of 22 students from southern Tibetan settlements in India was selected.

The exam is conducted every year in the first week of July.
