Orientation course for Tibetan pre-primary teachers underway

Dharamshala: An orientation course on the basic education policy (BEP) for another batch of teachers organised by the Department of Education, started on 21 December at the College for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah near Dharamshala.

Fifty pre-primary teachers from Tibetan Children's Village (TCV) and Tibetan Homes Foundation (THF) schools attended the orientation course. Besides, teachers from Yongling Day School, Sherab Gatsel Lobling, STS Dekyiling and Ngoenga School attended the course.

Education Secretary Ven Karma Gelek Yuthok was the chief guest during the inaugural function.

Talks were arranged on BEP, Montessori method teaching, evaluation, traditional education, counselling, child's health, logic and inclusive education. Resource persons for the talks included Nicola Tansley, Ngawang Sherab, Jampal Dakpa, Karma Chungdak, Tsering Samdup, Donkar Wangmo, Dr Dadon, Kalsang Damdul and Naga Sangay Tendar and others.

During the course of program, Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche, Thupten Lungrig, Kalon for Education, and education secretary will have detail interaction with the participants on the basic education policy.

Kalon Thupten Lungrig will present certificates to the participants during the valedictory function to be held on 28 December.

The orientation program is part of the series of on-going capacity building workshops for teachers conducted by the department since the adoption of the Basic Education Policy for Tibetans in exile in the year 2004.
