Tibetans in Russia commemorate top US Gold Medal to His Holiness

Moscow: The Tibetans in Russia held a celebration to commemorate the conferment of the US Congressional Gold Medal to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 17 October.

The monks of Genden Shedupling monastery in the Republic of Kalmykia, joined by the Gyuto and Gyumey monasteries, offered a long prayer to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

This ceremony was attended by the official representatives of the state President Office and Ministry of Culture. Scores of Tibetan and Presidents of local Tibet Support Groups joined the prayer ceremony. Traditional sweetened rice and other delicacies were offered as a mark of festivity.

Later in the evening, the Tibetan community hosted a dinner reception to friends of Tibet and other dignitaries.

The general public watched the live webcast of His Holiness the Dalai Lama receiving the top US Gold Medal.

Next day, the Tibet Culture and Information Centre in Moscow hosted an elaborate dinner reception to members of Tibet Support Groups and Tibetan populace based in Russia.
