The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic handed over on Friday 17th October a protest verbal note to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, in which it categorically rejected the false, misleading and absurd allegations made in a statement by the spokesperson of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China on the international conference of the Tibet Support Groups addressed to Czech mass media.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic expresses its regret at the Chinese Embassy’s resorting to such an extreme formulation and misinterpretation of facts. The Czech Republic recognises the policy of China’s indivisibility and has no intent to interfere in China’s internal affairs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic sees no connection between its policy towards China and the meeting of representatives of Tibet Support Groups in Prague. In the Czech Republic, the authorities do not intervene in the organization of non-governmental conferences as long as they do not violate the law. The Constitution of the Czech Republic guarantees in the territory of the Czech Republic the freedom of speech and the freedom of assembly. His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be received in the Czech Republic as the spiritual leader of a prominent world religion.
