
DHARAMSHALA: Local Indian dignitaries and public have been participating in the ongoing flame of truth relay in different parts of India.
Thousands of people took part in signature campaign during the relay in HD Kote town and Naganahalli village near Rabyaling Tibetan settlement in Hunsur on 31 July. Tsering Youdon, member of Tibetan Parliament-in-exile and who led the relay, addressed the gathering in the local language. Leaflets in Kanada and English were widely distributed to the public.
Mr William D’Souza, Executive Director of MYKATS, and the area’s chief councillor attended a programme on the relay at Ragyaling settlement on 1 August. Mr D’Souza was involved in the inception of Rabgyaling Settlement and served at its Tibetan co-operative society.
Addressing the relay at Hunsur Town Hall on 2 August, S M Loknath (KAS), Teshildar of Hunsur Taluk, pledged to put forward a memorandum of Tibetans to the Human Rights Commission in New Delhi. Following a brief introductory address by Tsering Youdon, MP, Mr Santosh, President of Indo Tibetan Friendship Society, gave an inspirational speech.
The torch was handed over to Kollegal Tibetan settlement today.
Torch Relay in North India

The northern leg of the torch relay passed through Gopalpur TCV school, Tibetan settlements in Bir and Chauntra, and Palampur. before reaching yesterday.
Addressing the relay in Palampur, Parveen Sharma, a Member of State Legislative Assembly, spoke about his devotion to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and extended wholehearted support to the just cause of Tibet. He signed the petition and said the three main demands of the campaign should be accepted by the United Nations for the greater good of Tibet.
The petition, to be submitted to the United Nations on 10 December, demands the UN to discuss the issue of Tibet based on the resolutions it has passed in 1959, 1961 and 1965, send an independent international fact-finding delegations to investigate the ongoing crisis in Tibet and to ensure that the basic aspirations of the Tibetans inside Tibet are fulfilled. The flame of truth relay is part of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile’s efforts to get UN intervention to resolve the issue of Tibet, including the tragic self-immolation of Tibetans.
