Obama Raises Tibet Issue With China’s Foreign MinisterFriday, 13 March 2009, 12:06 p.m.
Dharamshala: During
a meeting with China’s Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Thursday, US
President Barack Obama on Friday expressed hope that there would be
progress in the talks between the Chinese government and
representatives of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to resolve the issue of
Tibet. President Obama met with the Chinese foreign minister
in the Oval Office. Prior to the meeting, the foreign minister met with
National Security Advisor Jones and also met Wednesday at the State
Department with Secretary of State Clinton.”The President
expressed his hope there would be progress in the dialogue between the
Chinese government and the Dalai Lama’s representatives,”said the
White House in a statement issued after the meeting.During the meeting, Obama noted that promotion of human rights is an essential aspect of US global foreign policy.”On
