Mundgod: The auspicious 83rd birthday celebration of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama was held at Drepung Loseling Debate Hall with over 3500 lay and monks gathered.
The Chief Guest of the event was Advocate Sulekha Tai Kumbhare, Member, National Minority Commission, Government of India, New Delhi. The function was attended by all Abbots, Chanting Masters, Chief Discipliners, Monastery administrators of 9 monasteries, Camp leaders, dignitaries representing various NGOs and schools. Local Indian Dignitaries also attended the function.
Tibetan cultural shows and solo songs were presented by various schools and NGOs and a Karnataka classic dance was also performed by local Indian young girl.
The official statement of Kashag was delivered by Mr Jigme Tsultrim, Settlement Officer and official statement of Tibetan Parliament was delivered by Geshe Namgyal, Chairman, Local Tibetan Assembly.
Drepung Loseling Monastery Khenpo narrated the biography of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama followed by speech. The Chief Guest in her speech lauded His Holiness the Dalai Lama tireless work towards upbringing the happiness and Love in the world. She stated, His Holiness is not only a spiritual guru of Tibetans but the preacher of moral values to the world.
She further stated that many Tibetans are serving in the Indian Army and so, Tibetans in India cannot call themselves outsiders. At the conclusion of her speech, she urged the state government to pay attention towards improving basic facilities in the Tibetan Colony.
The chief guest felicitated Lobsang Tsering ( SFF, Retired Army ), the Exemplary Service Award from Prime Minister of India. The function was also attended by Local Indian leaders, Police, FROs, Tibetan dignitaries and school students.
After the function, the gathering of around 3500/ people was served lunch, water and cakes at the function venue.
