TAIWAN: Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk, Department of Health, CTA, who is currently on a weeklong visit to Taiwan, addressed a series of events and engagements last week in the country.
On 28 June, Kalon attended the Thank you Taiwan event, organised by Office of Tibet, Taiwan to honour the support and kindness of Taiwanese Government and people.
The next day, Health Kalon had a meeting with the chairman of Taiwan Root Medical Peace Corps, during which he discussed exile Tibetan health system and medicare policy. The meeting was organised by former Member of Tibetan Parliament, Tenzin Khedup.
On 30 June, Kalon addressed members of Tibetan community in Taiwan. Tashi Tsering, President of the Local Tibetan Association delivered the welcome remarks.
In his address, Kalon hailed the Tibetan exile community as one of the most successful communities, saying that the exile Tibetan community, under the leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, enjoys comparatively better facilities in terms of education, health than several small nations.
He also spoke about Kashag’s Five Fifty Vision and emphasised the preservation of Tibetan language, culture and religion. “Unity of three provinces of Tibet is paramount,” he said.
On 1 July, Kalon addressed His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 83rd birthday celebration, organised by Office of Tibet, Taiwan.
In the evening, Kalon attended the 20th founding anniversary of the Taiwan Office of Tibet. During the event, Kalon presented traditional Tibetan scarves to the representatives of Tibetan Dharma centres who have been supporting the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.
OOT organised a dinner gathering in honour of Kalon Wangchuk. Kalon also met with a group of Tibetan volunteers of OOT and thanked them for their good work.
With the successful conclusion of his weeklong visit, on 2 July, Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk departed for Japan.
