BELGIUM: Yontenling Buddhist Institute in Huy, Belgium organised an Amitabha Puja for deceased Mr Frans Goetghebeur (13/04/1948 -29/03/2018) on April 15. Frans passed away on March 29 after a prolonged illness.
As he had wished for a celebration on his 70th birthday the special prayer was thus performed as celebration of his life.
The Puja was conducted in the main temple of the Institute which was inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2012. Over 16 lamas from different countries in Europe led the sangha, along with members of his large family, members of the Institute, friends and guests. Over 400 people attended the puja.
Representative Tashi Phuntsok and a good contingent of Tibetan community were present to remember the departed friend and also to express their condolences to all concerned.
Leah, Lama Zuepa, Frans’ sister and his Zen Buddhist friends paid rich tributes to him. They recalled their long association and friendship with him which ran over 40 years.
Frans was associated with the Office of Tibet for many years. He was closely involved in the preparation of the visits of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Belgium over the years, especially in 2012 and 2016.
He was one of the founding members of Yontenling and its other affiliate centres. For nearly 40 years he was actively involved with them. He was the main translator for all the four Lamas of the Institute – Lama Urgyen, Lama Karta, Lama Tashi Nyima and Lama Zuepa. Lama Uygyen and Lama Karta have passed away before him.
