Taipei, Taiwan: The Taiwan Tibetan Welfare Association on Saturday held a solidarity prayer service for Konpe, who died after burning himself in protest against the Chinese government on 23 December, in Meuruma, Ngaba county.

Nearly fifty Tibetans and Taiwanese attended the hour-long prayer service held here at the Office of Tibet hall on 2 January.

The unending series of self-immolation protests highlights the grim situation of rights and freedoms inside Tibet, said Representative Dawa Tsering.

He further said that those in exile therefore should not just mourn the deaths inside Tibet but do more to fulfill the wishes and aspirations of people inside Tibet.

In his condolence remarks, Tashi Tsering, the president of the Taiwan Tibetan Welfare Association, also expressed profound sadness over the death of Konpe.

He also thanked local Tibetans and Taiwanese who have been actively supporting and participating in all the activities initiated by the Association.
