MIAO, Arunachal Pradesh: Post his visit to Tawang, Bumla, Dirang, Bomdila and Tenzingang, Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk of Department of Health, CTA visited Miao Tibetan settlement in Arunachal Pradesh from 25 – 26 November.
Kalon and officials of the health department were received by Settlement officer, Chairman of the local Tibetan Assembly and representatives of all the Tibetan local government and non-governmental organizations.
Kalon was accompanied by Public Health Officer Dr. Lobsang Tsering and Project Officer Tenzin Kunsang from the health department.
In his address to local Tibetans, Kalon emphasised the need of firm efforts from individuals in combating diseases like Hepatitis B, Tuberculosis (TB), Stomach cancer, Diabetes and hypertension which are causing grave threat to the overall health status of Tibetan community in exile.
He highlighted on various services and programs being carried out by the Department of Health, specifically on Tibetan Medicare System.
Next day on 26 November, Health Kalon offered prayers at Miao Choepheling Monasteries, followed by a visit to old age home, Pre-Primary school and crèche, Miao Sambhota School, TMAI branch and Miao Primary Health Centre.
Later, he met with Local Health Committee, where he appreciated all the members for their active role in promoting the overall health of local Tibetans through their contribution in health awareness program in the settlement.
The accompanying officials including Dr. Lobsang Tsering and Project Officer Tenzin Kunsang conducted a series of medical programs during the visit.
The purpose of their visit is to monitor Global Fund TB project and other programs of Health Department CTA including comprehensive co-ordinated outreach community care CCOCC) project, focus group discussion with camp leaders, were held taking stock of portable water in the settlements and monitor the ongoing construction project at PHC Miao.
Kalon will later visit Tezu Dhargyaling.
