Mussoorie: CTA President Dr. Lobsang Sangay visited Tibetan Homes Foundation in Mussoorie and addressed students and staff at the Tsering Dolma Hall yesterday on 18 October.
General Secretary, THF, Karma Chungdak gave introductory note and thanked Dr. Sangay for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit the school.
Greeting the students and staff, President Dr. Lobsang Sangay spoke about the importance of Tibetan Language and history. Iterating the significance of education for the Tibet cause, he said, “If you don’t study well then there is a danger that we might witness the extinction of the Tibetan culture and language.’’
He further highlighted the chances that the Tibetan culture and identity might just remain only as part of the museum exhibitions in the future if we don’t preserve our language and culture.
Referring the well-known Tibetan song ‘Phur’, Dr. Sangay spoke about how this song speaks to the Tibetan situation in exile and how we all have the responsibility to be self-reliant and not be dependent on others.
Iterating the detrimental affect of addictions, Dr. Sangay strongly guided the students to abstain from cigarettes, alcohol and drugs.
Quoting Mahatma Gandhi’s words on how ones thought and believe would define ones destiny, Dr. Sangay shared the story of his journey from being a Tibetan with a simple yet difficult upbringing to being the CTA’s president. He shared his story to encourage the students to the possibilities of achievements one could have irrespective of their background.
The president will conclude his official visit to the happy valley today.
